Mourne Textiles X Maven

Last weekend, as part of Belfast Design Week 2018 , we were thrilled to welcome Karen & Mario from Mourne Textiles, to Maven. Mourne Textiles, is a family run, design - led, manufacturer of hand woven products based in Co. Down. Mourne Textiles was established in 1949 by Karen’s Mother, & Mario’s Grandmother, - Gerd Hay-Edie.

Karen & Mario brought one of their looms, which was also featured at Margaret Howell, during Paris Design Week, to set up in store & we had the pleasure of watching Karen demonstrate the process of making their famous ‘Milano Rug’ - which was designed by her mother for Robin Day, to display in Milan at a showcase for his furniture in 1951.

It was a unique opportunity for our customers to chat to Karen & Mario about the process of weaving as well as the history behind the brand & to gain insight into the dedication & love that each piece is created with.
